{"id":10759,"date":"2025-08-04T14:03:41","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T19:03:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ibio.org\/?p=10759"},"modified":"2025-08-04T14:03:41","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T19:03:41","slug":"sbir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ibio.org\/sbir\/","title":{"rendered":"Illinois Life Sciences Companies Urged to Sign Group Letter Supporting SBIR\/STTR Reauthorization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Illinois companies stand to lose $90 million in annual funding if federal programs expire September 30th<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Illinois life sciences companies and associations have until <\/span><span class=\"s1\">August 15th<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> to sign onto a <a href=\"https:\/\/ibio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/IL-Group-SBIR-Letter.pdf\">group letter <\/a>urging the state&#8217;s Congressional Delegation to reauthorize the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs before their September 30, 2025 expiration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The programs provide approximately $90 million annually to Illinois high-tech companies and are the largest source of early-stage capital for biomedical startups. These federal grants are critical for launching companies from university laboratories across the state&#8217;s 94,000-employee life sciences ecosystem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">&#8220;SBIR funding has been instrumental in enabling Rhaeos to advance our innovative FlowSense technology from Northwestern University&#8217;s labs to clinical trials,&#8221; said Anna Lisa Somera, CEO of Rhaeos. &#8220;This critical early-stage funding allowed us to build our team here in Illinois and conduct essential research and development.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Illinois amplifies the federal investment through its own SBIR Phase I matching grant program.
