{"id":4257,"date":"2019-08-28T07:07:15","date_gmt":"2019-08-28T12:07:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ibio.org\/?p=4257"},"modified":"2019-08-28T07:07:15","modified_gmt":"2019-08-28T12:07:15","slug":"governor-pritzker-signs-legislation-strengthening-illinois-support-for-alzheimers-awareness-research-and-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ibio.org\/governor-pritzker-signs-legislation-strengthening-illinois-support-for-alzheimers-awareness-research-and-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Governor Pritzker Signs Legislation Strengthening Illinois Support for Alzheimer\u2019s Awareness, Research and Care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On August 26th Governor Pritzker signed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/legislation\/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=1726&amp;GAID=15&amp;DocTypeID=SB&amp;LegId=118976&amp;SessionID=108\">SB 1726<\/a> which expanded Illinois Alzheimer\u2019s Disease Advisory Committee and the Alzheimer\u2019s Disease Research, Care and Support Fund. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The bill also creates the full-time position of Dementia Coordinator within the Department of Public Health, who is responsible only for activities associated with and relevant to the successful implementation of the State of Illinois Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease State Plan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 2018 there are an estimated 220,000 persons with Alzheimer\u2019s disease living in Illinois. This figure is projected to reach 240,000 in 2025, a 14 percent increase. If all of the persons with Alzheimer\u2019s disease in Illinois lived in one city, it would be the state\u2019s second largest city.<\/p>\n<p>The growing health and financial impact of Alzheimer\u2019s disease on patients, caregivers, and our healthcare system makes the need for new treatments more pressing.\u00a0Currently there are 74 clinical-stage programs with disease-modifying potential in Alzheimer\u2019s disease.
