{"id":4962,"date":"2020-03-20T08:34:45","date_gmt":"2020-03-20T13:34:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ibio.org\/?p=4962"},"modified":"2020-03-20T08:43:07","modified_gmt":"2020-03-20T13:43:07","slug":"illinois-community-resources-to-fight-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ibio.org\/illinois-community-resources-to-fight-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Illinois Community Resources to Fight COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Illinois Life Sciences Community is leading the charge in the fight against COVID-19. iBIO members have stepped up to develop potential therapeutics and diagnostics for the disease.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0To\u00a0stay up-to-date on our\u00a0members current efforts and the progression of clinical\u00a0trials, check out <a href=\"https:\/\/ibio.org\/news-events\/coronavirus\/\">iBIO&#8217;s Coronavirus Resource Center<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>iBIO has been working closely with our regional, state and federal public health partners to monitor and respond to available information regarding the outbreak of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to support the continued fight against Coronavirus, we are creating a catalog of community resources. <strong>Specifically we are looking for companies and labs who can help advance testing capabilities.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Access to widespread testing has lagged behind; <b>according to statistics<\/b> from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, testing at public health laboratories passed over 4,000 specimens per day for the past week.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA <a href=\"https:\/\/ibio.org\/coronavirus-covid-19-update-fda-provides-more-regulatory-relief-during-outbreak-continues-to-help-expedite-availability-of-diagnostics\/\"><b>opened up testing<\/b><\/a> to certain CLIA-certified, \u201chigh complexity\u201d laboratories, allowing them to proceed with their own validated diagnostics prior to FDA review\u2014and later expanded that policy to commercial developers, provided they both submit applications for emergency test authorizations within 15 days of use. The agency also delegated oversight authority to state health departments, allowing them to review and approve COVID-19 tests directly.<\/p>\n<p>During this unprecedented time, the resources and leadership in our community are needed to address this public health crisis.
