Gonzalez<\/span>, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, AbbVie. &#8220;We believe investing in this important work \u2013 in partnership with national and local nonprofits \u2013 will create immediate opportunities and advance meaningful and lasting change.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Supporting health and educational equity, as well as advancing opportunity, have been an integral part of AbbVie&#8217;s ongoing philanthropic commitment. Since the company was formed in 2013, AbbVie has <a class=\"first-child\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3007138-1&amp;h=3380769218&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.abbvie.com%2Four-company%2Four-principles%2Four-commitment-to-racial-justice.html&amp;a=donated+more+than+%24120+million\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">donated more than <span class=\"xn-money first-child last-child\">$120 million<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to diverse underserved communities, and in June of this year, the company announced an additional\u00a0<a class=\"last-child\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3007138-1&amp;h=3650856043&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.linkedin.com%2Fpulse%2Fabbvies-commitment-racial-equality-social-justice-richard-a-gonzalez%2F%3Fpublished%3Dt%26trackingId%3DmEQ5Ce6zDc9xbLlKamI5lA%253D%253D&amp;a=donation+of+%245+million\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">donation of <span class=\"xn-money first-child last-child\">$5 million<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and the Equal Justice Initiative.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We asked partners with deep community roots where they saw the greatest needs, and we heard that reducing health disparities and providing educational and workforce-related opportunities for underserved Black communities were urgent yet ongoing needs,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person first-child last-child\">Karen Hale<\/span>, Vice President, Deputy General Counsel at AbbVie, who spearheaded AbbVie&#8217;s initiative. &#8220;While we know that change cannot happen overnight, we hope our commitments will help improve opportunity today while supporting important work to address long-term, systemic issues of racism.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"first-child last-child\">AbbVie&#8217;s 5-year, <span class=\"xn-money first-child last-child\">$50 million<\/span> Program to Address Racial Inequities\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <i class=\"first-child last-child\"><u class=\"first-child last-child\">Promote Health Equity for Black Americans and Other Historically Underserved Populations:<\/u><\/i><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"first-child\"><b class=\"first-child\"><span class=\"xn-money first-child\">$8 Million<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-org last-child\">University of Chicago<\/span> Medicine&#8217;s Urban Health Initiative <\/b>to empower <span class=\"xn-location last-child\">Chicago&#8217;s<\/span> South Side community\u2014made up of 77 percent Black residents\u2014 to advance health equity. AbbVie&#8217;s support will enable local teams of community health workers to promote access to care and resources proven to measurably reduce health disparities.<\/li>\n<li class=\"last-child\"><b class=\"first-child last-child\"><span class=\"xn-money first-child last-child\">$10 Million<\/span> to Direct Relief <\/b>to support the improvement of health care services at free and charitable clinics and federally qualified health centers (FQHCs). AbbVie&#8217;s support will launch the &#8220;Fund for Health Equity,&#8221; which will improve care across the country in underserved Black communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <i class=\"first-child last-child\"><u class=\"first-child last-child\">Foster Workforce Development Opportunities for Black Americans\u00a0<\/u><\/i><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"first-child\"><b class=\"first-child\"><span class=\"xn-money first-child last-child\">$10 Million<\/span> to UNCF Healthcare Diversity Workforce<\/b>\u00a0<b class=\"last-child\">Program,<\/b> as seed funding to reduce barriers to advancement in health professions and increase the number of Black professionals in a wide variety of health care careers. Scholarship, academic and career development support will be provided to students who are interested in a career in health care, but who might otherwise not have an opportunity to go beyond high school.<\/li>\n<li class=\"last-child\"><b class=\"first-child last-child\"><span class=\"xn-money first-child last-child\">$10 Million<\/span> to Year Up <\/b>to support its training and internship program for more than 600 young adults (ages 18-26). AbbVie&#8217;s support will enable technical skills training that is relevant and aligned with industry demand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <i class=\"first-child last-child\"><u class=\"first-child last-child\">Expand Educational Opportunities for Historically Underserved Youth and Young Adults<\/u><\/i><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"first-child\"><b class=\"first-child\"><span class=\"xn-money first-child last-child\">$1.5 Million<\/span> to Providence St. Mel School<\/b>\u00a0(PSM) to fund scholarships for high school students living in <span class=\"xn-location last-child\">Chicago&#8217;s<\/span> Southwest side based on financial need and academic potential. This independent, predominantly Black high school has had a 100 percent college acceptance rate since 1978.<\/li>\n<li class=\"last-child\"><b class=\"first-child last-child\"><span class=\"xn-money first-child\">$7 Million<\/span> to National Urban League&#8217;s Project Ready <i class=\"last-child\">Mentor<\/i>, <\/b>to lead\u00a0a\u00a0mentorship program for Black Americans and other historically underserved youth (ages 11-18). AbbVie&#8217;s funding will provide mentorship in three new cities and expand existing programs in 11 cities to improve post-secondary success.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <i class=\"first-child last-child\"><u class=\"first-child last-child\">Encouraging Employees to Support Justice Reform Organizations with a 3:1 match.<\/u><\/i><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"first-child last-child\"><b class=\"first-child\"><span class=\"xn-money first-child last-child\">$3.5 Million<\/span> in Reserve:<\/b>\u00a0As part of today&#8217;s announcement, AbbVie is expanding its employee matching program to <span class=\"xn-money\">$3<\/span>-to-<span class=\"xn-money\">$1<\/span> for donations to <a class=\"last-child\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3007138-1&amp;h=3949038485&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.charitynavigator.org%2Findex.cfm%3Fbay%3Dcontent.view%26cpid%3D5204%26order%3Dcharity&amp;a=civil+rights+nonprofits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">civil rights nonprofits<\/a>\u00a0fostering racial equity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b class=\"first-child last-child\">Partner Perspectives<\/b><\/p>\n<p id=\"indentid\" class=\"prnml40\"><b class=\"first-child\"><span class=\"xn-org first-child last-child\">University of Chicago&#8217;s<\/span> Urban Health Initiative \u2013 <\/b>&#8220;With AbbVie&#8217;s support, we are able to greatly expand the <span class=\"xn-org\">University of Chicago<\/span> Medicine&#8217;s community health initiatives and partnerships for the Black residents of <span class=\"xn-location\">Chicago&#8217;s<\/span> South Side communities, who experience disproportionately high rates of chronic health conditions, violence, and unemployment stemming from generations of structural inequality,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">Kenneth S.
