{"id":7356,"date":"2021-05-07T14:37:05","date_gmt":"2021-05-07T19:37:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ibio.org\/?p=7356"},"modified":"2021-05-10T07:06:38","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T12:06:38","slug":"ibio-announces-winner-of-illinois-biogeneius-challenge-student-competition-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ibio.org\/ibio-announces-winner-of-illinois-biogeneius-challenge-student-competition-2\/","title":{"rendered":"iBIO Announces Winner of \u201cIllinois BioGENEius Challenge\u201d Student Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Winner moves on to compete in the International Competition <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this summer for a chance to win a cash prize<\/span><\/i><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sirihaasa Nallamothu<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0from University High School took first place at the Illinois BioGENEius Challenge, an\u00a0annual student science and research competition hosted by iBIO as part of the 2021 Illinois Life Sciences Showcase.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nallamothu<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was selected from among 8\u00a0Illinois high school student semi-finalists for her research that focused on Computer Board based Fundoscopy and Supervised Binary Convolutional Neural Network for Diagnosis of Fundus and Eyelid Diseases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, students from across the state submitted projects that researched medical, agricultural, industrial and environmental biotechnology. These projects had to align with one of the three challenge areas: Global healthcare, global sustainability or global environment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Employees from Horizon Therapeutics, Medline Industries, Northwestern University and Proteintech served as the judges for the competition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are pleased Ms. Nallamouthu&#8217;s will be representing Illinois in the International Competition<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d said Ann Vogel, Senior Vice President of Charitable Programs and iBIO. \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ms. Nallamouthu&#8217;s knowledge of the topic, her enthusiasm and commitment to developing solutions that will help thousands of people suffering from eye diseases around the world will set her apart from her competitors in June.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nallamothu <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will go on to represent Illinois in the International BioGENEius Competition in June. Due to COVID-19, the competition will also be conducted virtually. The top three competitors will receive cash prizes.
