So why does this year seem different?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As opposed to other years, Illinois voters will select their party nominees for every statewide office this year. If you remember from last fall, Illinois lawmakers approved new state and congressional maps for Illinois.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Redistricting has consolidated several state and congressional districts, forcing some incumbents to face off with their colleges. At the same time, a few notable officials will not be seeking re-election, opening up new opportunities and seats at both the state and congressional levels.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While primary elections are always important, the 2022 Illinois primary election will determine several open and new state and congressional district seats.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So here is what you need to know and the races to watch in Illinois (iBIO does not endorse candidates).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State-Executive Races<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Governor &amp; Lieutenant Governor<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jbpritzker.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> face a Democratic primary challenge from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/miles4governor.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beverly Miles<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a nurse and U.S. Army veteran from Chicago. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Governor Pritzker has a massive funding and name recognition advantage in this primary race.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Six candidates are running in the Republican primary for governor of Illinois on June 28, 2022. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/baileyforillinois.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sen. Darren Bailey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irvinbourne.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have led the field in fundraising and media coverage. The other Republican candidates include former state <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.schimpf4illinois.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sen. Paul Schimpf<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, suburban businessman <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rabineforgovernor.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gary Rabine<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maxsolomon.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Max Solomon<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and downstate venture capitalist <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/jessesullivan.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jesse Sullivan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Irvin has the backing of Citadel CEO (and Illinois Republican donor) Ken Griffin. But according to a new <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/elections\/2022\/6\/10\/23161925\/sun-times-wbez-poll-republican-downstate-farmer-bailey-double-digit-lead-aurora-mayor-irvin-governor\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago Sun-Times\/WBEZ poll<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Sen. Darren Bailey has a 15-percentage-point lead over Irving. The downstate lawmaker led Irving in both rural and metro-chicago. However, 27% of Republican primary voters responded as \u201cnot sure,\u201d leaving a lot of votes on the table.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Secretary of State<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Incumbent Secretary of State Jesse White is retiring, creating the first open election since 1998. With White retiring, the winner of the GOP primary might have a fighting chance in the general election. The office\u2019s history as a springboard to the governor\u2019s mansion and the U.S. Senate makes this a race to watch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Former State Treasurer <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alexiforus.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alexi Giannoulias<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Chicago City Clerk <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voteannavalencia.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anna Valencia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are the two <\/span><b>Democratic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> frontrunners to succeed White. Giannoulias has the support and financial backing of organized labor. And has endorsements from Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, U.S. Rep. Chuy Garcia, U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider, U.S Rep. Mike Quigley, and retiring U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Valencia has endorsements from Jesse White, Gov. Pritzker, U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin, Tammy Duckworth, and U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago Alderman <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mooreforillinois.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">David Moore<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Big Box Charities Executive Director <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sidneyforsecretaryofstate.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sidney Moore<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also filed to run in the Democratic primary.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the <\/span><b>Republican<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> side, former U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/johnmilhiser.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">John Milhiser<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has the backing of Ken Griffin and the statewide Republican slate. House Deputy Republican Leader <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/votedanbrady.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dan Brady<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will challenge Milhiser for the Republican nomination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brady has been a fixture in the General Assembly since 2001. Milhiser served as the top U.S. attorney in central Illinois from 2018 until last year, an appointment from former President Donald Trump. Despite that financial backing of Ken Griffen, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/elections\/2022\/6\/12\/23160845\/illinois-republican-primary-poll-senate-attorney-general-secretary-state-undecided\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sun-Times WBEZ poll<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had Brady holding 29% support among likely Republican primary voters compared to 13% for Milhiser. More than 50% of voters remain undecided.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S Senate<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seven Republicans are vying for an opportunity to unseat first-term Democratic US Senator Tammy Duckworth. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/caseyforsenate.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Casey Chlebek<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/peggyhubbardforsenate.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peggy Hubbard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bobbypiton.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Robert \u201cBobby\u201d Piton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmylee2dc.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jimmy Lee Tillman II<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Anthony W. Williams, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kathysalvi.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kathy Salvi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and Matthew \u201cMatt\u201d Dubiel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/elections\/2022\/6\/12\/23160845\/illinois-republican-primary-poll-senate-attorney-general-secretary-state-undecided\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago Sun-Times\/WBEZ poll, <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the field is pretty open. The primary winner will face Senator Duckworth, a popular military veteran, and a formidable candidate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Illinois Congressional Races<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1st Congressional District<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ballot to fill outgoing, 15-term Congressman Bobby Rush\u2019s open seat is packed with 17 Democratic candidates. Some of which are familiar names, and some are newcomers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the 1st Congressional District has long been a powerhouse seat for leaders in the black community, changing district demographics and redistricting, capturing rural voters in Channahon and Bourbonnais will play a role in the primary election.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s the list of Democrats with top contenders listed first.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jonathanjacksonforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jonathan Jackson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, businessman, activist, and son of Rev. Jesse Jackson,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ald. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.illinoisfordowell.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pat Dowell<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the 3rd Ward leads all candidates in fundraising,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.votekarin.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karin Norington-Reaves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, head of the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership, was announced as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/columnists\/2022\/1\/13\/22882163\/bobby-rush-endorses-karin-norington-reaves-democratic-primary-1st-congressional-district\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rush\u2019s preferred<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> replacement,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swain4us.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jonathan Swain<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, businessman and nonprofit leader with experience in City Hall, is doing well in fundraising,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State Sen. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.senatorjacquelinecollins.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jacqueline Collins<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has received several endorsements from more than 20 peers,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cole2022.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jahmal Cole<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an activist and founder of the non-profit My Block My City My Hood.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chariseforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charise Williams<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, deputy director of the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other Democratic candidates: teacher <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kirbybirgansforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kirby Birgans<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, pastor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.electchrisbutler.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chris Butler<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, former restaurant owner <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dejoieforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steven DeJoie<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, attorney <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodrumforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cassandra Goodrum<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, professor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.terrelayngrosner.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terre Layng Rosner<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, minister <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/marcuslewisforcongress.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marcus Lewis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, violence interrupter <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ameenaforcongress.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ameena Matthews<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/m.facebook.com\/people\/Robert-Palmer-for-Congress-of-the-Illinois-1st-District\/100079826387430\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Robert Palmer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, realtor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nykeaforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nykea Pippion McGriff<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and teacher <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.votethompson2022.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michael Thompson Jr<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The primary winner will likely win the seat in this Democratic stronghold come November. Regardless, the <\/span><b>Republican<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> primary candidates are veteran <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ericcarlsonforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eric Carlson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, small business owner <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/regnierforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jeffrey Reginer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, former ward committeeman <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/philaniseforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Philanise White<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/genoyoung.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geno Young<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3rd Congressional District<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 3rd Congressional District was created in the 2021 redistricting process to reflect the goring Latinx population in Chicago. The district stretches from the Chicago neighborhood Avondale to the western suburbs of Glen Ellyn, Bensenville, and Bartlett of Dupage County. The Dupage County suburbs will provide some conservative voters; 70% of the district votes will come from within Chicago.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Four Democratic candidates are running for the open seat, with two emerging as frontrunners. Their endorsements provide a picture of their politics.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago Ald. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gilforcongress.com\/about\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gilbert Villegas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 36th Ward<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State Rep. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deliaforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Delia Ramirez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who represents the state\u2019s 4th District<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ramirez paints herself as a grassroots candidate and touts her progressive positions. Many progressive politicians have endorsed Ramirez, including Illinois U.S. Rep. Jesus \u201cChuy\u201d Garcia, Massachusetts U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, US Senator Bernie Sanders, the Progressive Caucus, and Emily\u2019s List.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Villegas, a former union truck driver, and U.S. Marine veteran, describes himself as a \u201cpragmatic progressive,\u201d which may be more appealing to the district.\u00a0 Villegas is endorsed by veteran and labor groups, the Chicago Tribune, Daily Herald, Congressman Brad Schneider, former congressman Luis Guitierrez, and Jesse White.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The other Democratic candidates are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iymenchehadeforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Iymen Chehade<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a professor at Columbia College Chicago and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/aguirreforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Juan Enrique Aguirre<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a nurse and Chicago cannabis businessman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.burauforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Justin Burau<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a real estate broker, is running unopposed in the Republican primary.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6th Congressional District<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 6th Congressional District includes portions of Chicago\u2019s western suburbs and has the unusual circumstance of two incumbents competing in the primary: U.S. Reps. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/castenforcongress.com\/homepage\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sean Casten<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/marienewmanforcongress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marie Newman<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The district has a long history of being represented in Congress by Republicans. That changed in 2018 when Sean Casten unseated former Representative Peter Roskam.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2021 redistricting process changed the dynamics of the district when the new congressional map placed Rep. Marie Newman\u2019s house in the same congressional district as Rep Chuy Garcia&#8217;s. Newman decided she would run for another term in Congress in the 6th District, creating the Newman-Casten primary.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Newman has argued she has the progressive policy chops to win the Democratic primary. In contrast, Casten has argued his moderate background would be a more significant advantage that would allow the Democrats to retain the seat in the November election. Miller\u2019s objection to the fair election mirrors that of likely Republican voters, who overwhelmingly believe that Trump should have been President, as a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/elections\/2022\/6\/13\/23163374\/sun-times-wbez-poll-donald-trump-illinois-republicans-election-fraud-biden-2024-critical-race-theory\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recent <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago Sun-Times<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\/WBEZ poll found<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Davis is a seasoned politician running for his sixth term and is well-known in the district. Davis differs from Miller in that he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/politics\/ct-capitol-insurrection-commission-illinois-delegation-vote-20210520-6cznxkp5g5eoddcy65qudzm43i-story.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">voted to certify the 2020 election results<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sj-r.com\/story\/news\/politics\/government\/2021\/05\/20\/capitol-breach-kinzinger-davis-join-democrats-vote-panel\/5187389001\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">supported a commission investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Illinois General Assembly Races to Watch<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>4th District:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Incumbent Delia Ramirez\u2019s decision to run for Congress has left open a seat that includes Chicago\u2019s Humboldt Park neighborhood. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lilianforstaterep.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lillian Jimenez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the front runner. Jimenez is currently director of the Office of Welcoming Centers for Immigrant and Refugee Services at the Illinois Department of Human Services. Jimenez was also chief of staff for Jesus \u201cChuy\u201d Garcia when he was a Cook County commissioner. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.friendsforjimenez.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Manuel Jimenez Jr.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a high school teacher from Humboldt Park, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hector4staterep.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hector Villafuerte<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, active in the Humboldt Park Advisory Council, are also candidates.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>13th District:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> There\u2019s a crowded primary to replace retiring House Majority Leader Greg Harris (D-Chicago).\u00a0 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.electandypeters.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Andy Peters<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a University of Chicago graduate and cafe owner, recently picked up the Chicago Tribune\u2019s endorsement. Also in the race are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/votehoan.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hoan Hynh<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an investment project leader for Chicago Beyond; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/elections\/2022\/x\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joe Struck<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an insurance sales manager; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sergioforillinois.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sergio Mojica<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, former CPS principal; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eileendordek.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eileen Dordek<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a licensed clinical social worker.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>19th District:\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Incumbent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lindseylapointe.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Representative Lindsey LaPointe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will face business owner <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tinafor19.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tina Wallace<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the Democratic primary. This will be the second primary Rep LaPointe will face since she was appointed to the seat in 2019. Her district makes up half of Senator Martwick\u2019s district, home to many Chicago Police Officers and Firefighters. Wallace is also backed by the Chicago FOP and points to LaPointe\u2019s views on police\/crime in the state.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>21st District:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.repmikezalewski.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rep. Mike Zalewski <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(D-Riverside), Chair of the Revenue Committee, picked up his first primary challenger in over a decade. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/rashidforillinois.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abdelnasser Rashid<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a Harvard graduate with solid ties to the progressive wing of the Democratic party, previously ran for Cook County Board and Board of Review. <\/span><b>Rashid has been gaining traction in the district and poses a real challenge to Zalewski.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>51st District:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chelseaforillinois.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chelsea LaLiberte Barnes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is facing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nabeelasyed.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nabeela Syed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the Democratic primary. The winner will face <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chrisbos.us\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Representative Chris Bos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the general election. LaLiberte Barnes is a social worker and small business owner from Lake County. She has been active in the nonprofit space, advocating for public health legislation in Springfield. Syed is a recent graduate of the University of California, Berkley. She has worked with various progressive organizations, including Emily\u2019s list. This race is highly contentious as the House Democrats have deemed it winnable in November.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>62nd District:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> There is a three-way primary to replace Rep. Sam Yingling (D-Grayslake), who is running for Senate. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/laurafaverdias.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Laura Dias<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Grayslake Village Trustee, and former teacher; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/terrywilke.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terry Wilke<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Forest Preserve Commissioner, County Board Member, Former Township Supervisor; and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomasmaillard.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thomas Maillard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Government affairs analyst at DeVry and Democratic Congressional State Central Committeeman. Maillard seems to be the front runner with several endorsements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Senate District 10:\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Incumbent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.robertmartwick.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senator Rob Martwick<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is facing Chicago FOP-funded <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ej4senate.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Erin Jones. <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 10<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Senate District is home to a large portion of Chicago Police and Fire. Jones is a Chicago Detective with very moderate political views.\u00a0 In 2018, Jones was a Republican precinct captain in the 39<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ward but stands by the fact that she is a lifelong Democrat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Senate District 43: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/mattsonforillinois.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senator Eric Mattson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was recently appointed to fill the vacancy of Senator John Connor. Senator Connor has decided to run for Judge in Will County. Senator Mattson will face far-left primary challenger <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rachelfventura.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rachel Ventura.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Senator Mattson is a union firefighter that was instrumental in the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Will County. He and his union are very politically active all over the region. Ventura is a far left-leaning Will County board member.
